Mike Goggen has defeated incumbent State Senator Matt Schmit in Senate District 21, which includes Scott and Goodhue counties.
Sen. Schmitt, according to his website is a university instructor and small business owner. Schmitt was first elected in 2012.
Goggen proved to be a worthy opponent for Schmit in 2016. With both House seats currently being held by Republicans, and the District turning red for Mitt Romney in 2012, a well-known face made his bid for re-election tough.
Mike Goggen is a pillar in the area. As reported by Alpha News, Goggen’s father ran the Red Wing Shoe Company. According to his website, Goggen “is currently a certified project management professional for Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant.”
