Father of Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz Visits Twin Cities

IMG_3017Pastor Rafael Cruz, father of Texas Senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz, visited the Twin Cities this past weekend to stump for his son at several events.

Speaking before a standing-room only crowd on Saturday, February 27th at Cowboy Jack’s in Bloomington, Minnesota, Pastor Cruz fired up the crowd telling them that Ted Cruz will do two things: he will always tell the truth and he will do what he says he will do. Among the things that Pastor Cruz said his son would do as president would be to simplify the tax code and bring local control back to education. “To be sure that our children will have a better life, we have to get the government out of our lives, out of our pockets, we have to cut down taxes, regulations, let free enterprise have its way, and let entrepreneurship and the innovation of America create millions upon millions of jobs.” Pastor Cruz told the cheering audience.  Later that day, Pastor Cruz spoke at Capstone Homes in Ramsey and visited Maranatha Assemblies of God on Sunday, February 28th at 8:30AM in Forest Lake.

On Monday, February 29th, Senator Ted Cruz is scheduled to appear with radio personality Glenn Beck at the Minneapolis Hilton at 7PM.  Cruz’s visit to Minnesota on Monday falls on the eve of Tuesday’s state caucus. Cruz is running neck-in-neck with Senator Marco Rubio.  With 38 delegates up for play in Minnesota, the latest Star Tribune/Mason Dixon Poll shows Ted Cruz at 21%, slightly behind Marco Rubio at 23% in the state.  Rounding out the rest of the Republican presidential field are Donald Trump at 18%, Ben Carson at 11% and John Kasich at 2%.

Minnesota is one of the 12 “Super Tuesday” states where the Republican candidates will be competing for 595 delegates, which is approximately 25% of the total number of GOP delegates.  In order to become the nominee, a presidential candidate needs 1,237 delegates to win.
