The Robbinsdale Police Department issued a warning on the city’s Facebook page on Monday about a rash of garage burglaries that occurred on the city’s east side over the weekend. That warning came on the heels of another report of burglaries and thefts discovered in the area a few days prior.
According to the post on Monday, a large number of garage burglaries and thefts occurred during the overnight hours between Friday and Saturday in the area of Abbott Avenue North to York Avenue North and between 38th Avenue North and 43rd Avenue North. The post indicated that in a majority of the incidents, one or more suspects made forced entry through garage service doors and accessed unlocked vehicles inside. Another report about the incidents indicated that there had been at least 24 break-ins in the area. A possible suspect vehicle was identified as a dark colored Ford Flex SUV. As of Monday, no arrests had been made.
Another Robbinsdale Facebook post last week indicated that there had been another spate of thefts and burglaries in the area midweek. The post stated that two parties had been arrested in relation to those incidents after police followed their footprints in the freshly fallen snow early last Wednesday morning. However, a check of Hennepin County jail records indicated that the two suspects who had been arrested on probable cause burglary on Nov. 27 by Robbinsdale police were released later the same day without charges. It’s unknown whether the same parties are also suspected in the weekend burglaries or whether they will be charged in the prior burglaries.
Another post by a person in the north Minneapolis Victory Neighborhood Facebook group indicated that their residence on the 4100 block of Washburn Avenue North had been burglarized over the weekend, and they posted a picture of a door that had been forced open. The Victory Neighborhood is directly adjacent to the neighborhood indicated in the Robbinsdale posts. No information was immediately available from Minneapolis police about any burglaries in that area.
