‘This is our home’: Tad Jude’s Minnesota campaign ad goes viral, draws national attention

Beneath the nostalgia of the ad is a pointed political message: Minnesotans feel as though "we came home one day and the house had been rearranged" because those in power "stopped answering to us."

In an election season filled with attack ads, ominous music and warnings about political opponents, one Minnesota Republican is taking a decidedly different approach — and people across the country are paying attention.

Tad Jude, a former judge and the GOP candidate for secretary of state, has gone viral with a campaign ad that feels less like a political commercial and more like a love letter to Minnesota — one with a warning about what happens when the people who call a place home no longer recognize it.

Released Tuesday, the video has at least 2.7 million views on X, an extraordinary reach for a down-ballot candidate running for an office that rarely commands national headlines.

Jude is challenging incumbent Democratic Secretary of State Steve Simon, who is seeking a fourth term and has repeatedly clashed with the Trump administration over election integrity.

A campaign ad striking a chord

Rather than opening with the familiar parade of political villains, accusations and dramatic headlines, Jude’s video draws viewers into something more personal: the place they call home.

Narrating it all is Jude himself, with a voice that sounds straight out of Central Casting. The ad leans into Minnesota’s identity — its lakes, its landscape, its traditions and the shared experiences that make the state more than just a location on a map.

Then comes the message at the heart of the commercial.

“Something changed here, and most of us felt it … like something that belonged to us was decided for us, like we came home one day and the house had been rearranged while we were gone … But when the people trusted to protect all of this, to keep the records honest, to keep the process clean, to keep the decision in our hands, when they stopped answering to us, you felt it, Minnesota. We all did.”

It captures the message Jude wants voters to consider: Who gets to decide what Minnesota becomes?

From Minnesota to the national spotlight

Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who has millions of followers on social media, shared the video, writing: “This is a phenomenal ad.”

Conservative radio host and Fox News contributor Hugh Hewitt was equally impressed, particularly with the production.

“This director/producer/campaign consultant is going to be in high demand. Just beautiful,” Hewitt wrote.

“Wow: This MN Candidate’s Ad May Be the Best of the Election Cycle – It Speaks to What We All Want,” was the headline from Redstate.com.

Whether the video’s popularity translates into votes remains to be seen. But the attention surrounding Jude’s ad demonstrates how a campaign for a relatively low-profile statewide office can break through the political noise with a message that reaches beyond the usual talking points and insults.
