The Minnesota Department of Transportation released video that shows a small airplane crash-landing on a Minneapolis highway.
The incident occurred Dec. 2 around 9:30 p.m. on a section of 35W that runs through Arden Hills, a neighborhood in Minneapolis, according to KSTP. Miraculously, there have been no reported injuries, even though the airplane clipped a vehicle on the road.
Another video shows bystanders stopping to check on the downed pilot, 52-year-old Craig Gifford, before first responders arrive on scene.
The Ramsey County Deputies Federation also posted some photos that show the airplane resting atop a highway divider with its nose contacting a car. The federation noted that the crash-landing appeared to be caused by “engine failure,” although the situation remains under investigation.
Apparently the landing caused only minimal disturbance to the nearby area.
“We were just watching a movie and we heard a super loud thud,” a woman who lives nearby the site of the accident told KSTP. “It kind of made us all look at each other, like what was going on … then we just continued watching the movie.”
The highway re-opened shortly after the incident, and traffic has now resumed as usual.
