A visit to a Circle Pines gun range that was posted on a Snapchat video has resulted in a felony weapons charge against a St. Paul man.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Anoka County last week, Ibrahim Camara posted a video to Snapchat which showed him shooting an assault rifle and a .40 caliber handgun at an Anoka County indoor gun range on Sept. 23. The Snapchat account was one of several accounts being monitored by an officer with the St. Paul Police Department Gang Unit (SPPD) who was familiar with Camara and recognized him in the video.
The officer subsequently visited the gun range which had been listed in the video’s title and reviewed security footage from Sept. 23 and saw Camara with two other men, one of whom rented the assault rifle and another who purchased a .40 caliber handgun. Camara had also signed in using his own name at the gun range. Camara has a prior felony second-degree burglary conviction which makes him ineligible to own or possess firearms or ammunition, the complaint said.
Camara, 23, was charged last week in Anoka County with one count of felony possession of firearm or ammunition by ineligible person. The complaint states that the maximum penalty is up to 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine.
Camara is also facing two charges in a separate Ramsey County case for domestic assault. He was arraigned in that case on Sept. 23 and was subsequently granted a public defender and offered conditional release with no bail required.
A warrant was issued on Oct. 9 for Camara’s arrest after the weapons charge was filed last week in Anoka County. He was arrested by SPPD and booked into custody in Ramsey County Jail on Oct. 11 and was subsequently transferred to Anoka County Jail. Camara made an initial court appearance in that county on Monday where he was granted a public defender. Camara is currently in custody on $75,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 5.
The Anoka County jail booking lists an address of residence for Camara on the 1600 block of Burns Avenue in St. Paul and he was arrested by SPPD at an apartment complex on the 1200 block of Wilson Avenue in St. Paul.
