Minnesota Congressman Pete Stauber blasted Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Saturday, during an event with the Minnesota College Republicans.
Pelosi announced Thursday that she is forming a new House committee with subpoena power to investigate President Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus, according to Fox News. The Minnesota College Republicans asked Stauber what he thinks of this committee during a teleconference.
The congressman did not hold back in his characterization of Pelosi’s new committee and the related work of Adam Schiff amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as an attack on the president.
“They are relentless after this president… It’s nonstop,” he said. “We are in a health crisis in our nation… and Adam Schiff’s priority is to bastardize the president, to take him down during this crisis. We have to shed our political differences at this point… we have to get through this together.”
Stauber also characterized Shiff and Pelosi as “outliers” who are not participating in the shared national process of beating the coronavirus.

He then criticized the Democrat’s COVID-19 relief bill, claiming that Pelosi attempted to roll her left wing agenda into the aid package. Stauber alleged that Pelosi took advantage of the crisis to attempt to legalize “taxpayer funded abortions.”
“She wanted to remove the Hyde Amendment [a legislative provision barring the use of federal funds to pay for abortion],” he said. “Her focus was on carbon emissions for airplanes, not on the health and safety of the American people… Even my moderate Democrat friends on the other side of the aisle are absolutely embarrassed at what she’s doing right now,” he added.
The congress also reminded the College Republicans how House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn has publicly announced his intention to leverage the COVID-19 crisis for partisan gain.
Cluburn urged House Democrats to exploit the coronavirus stimulus bill, calling it “a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision” late last month, according to WRVA.
“We greatly appreciated Congressman Pete Stauber’s attendance at our virtual event,” says the Chair of the Minnesota College Republicans, Karly Hahn. “We agree with him wholeheartedly that now is a moment for unity, and a time to heal partisan divides as we prioritize the health and safety our fellow Americans.”
