“What evidence do we produce? What good fruit do we produce that proves we truly are attached to the vine?” Fr. James Altman asked in a recent homily.
“Right after Jesus taught about the vine and the branches, Jesus taught this: ‘If the world hates you, realize it hated me first, but because I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but as it is they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me also hates my father,’” said Altman.
As such, the “clearest indication that we actually are attached to the vine” is “if the world hates us because of our faith.”
“Let us conclude with this assertion of fact: we will know the truth of the matter of whether or not we’re attached to the vine by our enemies,” said Altman.
“So amen I say to you, if I am not hated by every Democrat, if I am not hated by AOC and her squad in D.C., if I am not hated by James Martin, if I am not hated by Biden-slash-Harris, if I’m not hated by Black Lives Matter, if I’m not hated by Planned Parenthood, if I’m not hated by every fake Catholic who could not argue themselves out of a theological paper bag, and sorry, if I’m not hated by any of those birds of a feather, then I’m not attached to the vine, who also was hated,” he continued.
“If I’m not hated, then I’m not producing good fruit, and that’s going to be a problem for me on judgment day.”
