A man on federal parole with over 20 prior felony convictions is now charged with another felony.

New charges say Randolph Seth Anderson, 50, of St. Paul pointed a gun at a cashier at Hidden Treasures Thrift Store in St. Anthony, Minnesota, and threatened to shoot people if she didn’t comply with his robbery demand.

The robbery occurred just after 1 p.m. on Monday Jan. 24. Charges say the suspect, later identified as Anderson, approached the counter with a duffel bag from the store’s inventory, along with a pair of shoes and some clothing.

As the cashier was ringing up the merchandise, Anderson handed her the jacket he came into the store with. On top of the jacket was a handwritten note that asked her to put money in the bag or people would get shot.

The cashier, referred to as the victim in the complaint, saw a black handgun in the suspect’s hand as he pointed it at her and racked the slide to chamber a bullet. She handed the suspect $200. He left with the money and unpaid merchandise.

Police later found the pickup truck the suspect had fled in abandoned a few blocks away. Police were able to identify Anderson a few days later, but he remained at large.

Anderson was finally taken into custody in Roseville on Monday afternoon, Jan. 31.

According to a Roseville Police Department press release, Anderson had been the driver of a vehicle who fled after crashing in the area of Snelling Avenue and Skillman Avenue just after noon. Three others in the vehicle were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Police learned the vehicle was registered to Anderson and that his driver’s license photo matched the person who fled from the vehicle. The statement said that Anderson was wanted for the St. Anthony armed robbery, may have still been in possession of the firearm he wasn’t allowed to possess, and was on federal probation from a prior conviction.

Officers from several jurisdictions responded to the area in an attempt to locate and apprehend Anderson, including the Roseville Police Department, St. Anthony Police Department, and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

Approximately 20 minutes after searching, Anderson was located walking in the area of Snelling Avenue and County Road B. He displayed a handgun and fled on foot from an officer. Officers pursued him to a nearby condominium complex on the 1600 block of Highway 36 where he was spotted standing outside of a first floor sliding glass door.

Upon being given several commands to surrender, Anderson fired a round from a pistol he was holding.

He then forced entry into an individual unit via the sliding door. Shortly after entering, Anderson was seen running out of a rear exit of the complex where he was apprehended. Despite the suspect throwing his stolen handgun at a squad car, officers were able to take him into custody without further incident, the press release said.

Minnesota court records show that Anderson is a lifelong offender with at least 22 state convictions that include at least 21 felonies. Anderson’s convictions include several burglaries, several auto thefts, financial card fraud, narcotics and fleeing police.

Anderson was also federally convicted in 2014 on one count of being an armed career criminal in possession of a handgun. Anderson was originally sentenced to 15 years but was resentenced in 2017 to six-and-a-half years. He was released from prison and placed on probation in August 2021.

Anderson remains in custody in Hennepin County Jail without bail on a U.S. Marshal hold. He’s scheduled to make his next court appearance on the robbery charge on March 2.
