The House Republican Campaign Committee (HRCC) announced that it is set to report a record fundraising haul for the organization. The campaign arm of Republicans serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives, the HRCC says it has raised over $1.8 million in its quest to win a majority in the chamber.

“House Republicans are seeing record-setting support as we work to restore balance to Minnesota,” said Republican Leader Lisa Demuth.

According to an HRCC press release, the organization will also report roughly $1.6 million in cash on hand. The organization stated that both the $1.8 million in fundraising, and the $1.6 million in cash on hand, broke the HRCC’s previous records in both categories. Additionally, the HRCC said it has “already surpassed all of 2022 for total unique contributions.”

“I’m grateful for the generous support we’ve seen from donors, grassroots supporters, and our members who have stepped up to build a strong campaign operation that has knocked nearly a quarter million doors and will be holding Democrats accountable for their extreme and expensive agenda over the next 42 days,” said Demuth.

A third-term lawmaker, Rep. Demuth would likely become speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives should the GOP win a majority this autumn.

Democrats have controlled the Minnesota House since winning a majority during the 2018 elections. Having won twice more in 2020 and 2022, Democrats currently maintain a majority of 70-64 in the chamber. As such, a change in only four seats would give the House majority to Republicans, and a change in only three seats could result in a tied House; 67-67.

While many seats are considered solidly Republican or solidly Democrat, the race for the majority will be determined by key legislative races in a dozen or so toss-up districts.

Despite the HRCC’s announcement, House Democrats in Minnesota have outpaced their Republican counterpart in fundraising.

In April of this year, the campaign arm of the Minnesota House Democrats announced that it raised $2.8 million in total this cycle. The House Democrats’ most recent campaign finance report indicates that the organization had roughly $2.3 million in cash on hand at the end of July.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Senate is currently tied with 33 Republicans, 33 Democrats, and one vacant seat. The vacancy occurred when Democrat Kelly Morrison resigned from the Senate in June to run for Congress. Morrison’s former seat will be filled by a special election this November.
