
A man was injured in a shooting inside Maplewood Mall in Ramsey County, Minn., on Sunday afternoon, causing the mall to close for the remainder of the day.
Gunshots were reported inside the mall just after 2 p.m., according to available emergency dispatch audio. Police arrived to find a male shot on the lower level near JC Penney, and proceeded to get the mall shut down.
A video clip obtained by Crime Watch Minneapolis reportedly from the aftermath of the shooting appears to show a person on the floor near a staircase who was being tended to by a responder.

Initial audio described the suspects as a group of young Asian males with mullets, and the shooter reportedly ran through JC Penney following the shooting. Two people were reportedly detained shortly after police arrived, but police conducted a search though the mall to check for more possible suspects, as well as a potentially discarded weapon.
The Maplewood Police Department released a statement following the shooting:
“On 02-22-2026 at about 2:02 pm, Maplewood Police and Maplewood Fire responded to the Maplewood Mall located at 3001 White Bear Avenue on the report of a person shot inside the mall. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male with a gunshot wound to the hip. The victim was transported to Regions Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Through investigation, officers learned the shooting stemmed from a group physically fighting in the mall’s lower concourse near mall door #5. Two juvenile subjects were detained on scene and later booked at the Ramsey County Jail for riot in the third degree.
The shooting suspect in this incident is described as a small build Asian male, wearing a black stocking hat, a black jacket, a white shirt, and black pants.
