In Minnesota, abortions have been in an overall downward trend since 2006, but Planned Parenthood continues to increase the amount it performs.
Minnesota’s abortion rate has been dropping because of groups like the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), who work to lower the number of abortions with education and legislative changes. While the statewide rate sinks, Planned Parenthood continues to perform more abortions every year, and , who has performed most of them since 2015.
“Planned Parenthood continues to inflate abortion numbers in Minnesota despite a long-term pro-life trend”, says Scott Fischbach, executive director of the MCCL. “Nevertheless, pro-life efforts are supporting women and saving unborn lives. Pregnancy care centers, pro-life education, pro-life laws like Woman’s Right to Know and Positive Alternatives—all of these are making a difference.”
The MCCL attributes the “pro-life trend” to pregnany care centers, pro-life education, and laws such as the Woman’s Right to Know informed consent law, the parental notification law, and the abortion reporting law (which allowed the figures in this article to be published).
In 2019, 9,922 abortions were performed in MN, 225 less than 2017, and Planned Parenthood performed 70% and 61% of of those abortions respectively.
