Republican Party of Minnesota now has three candidates including the current chair Jennifer Carnahan who will be seeking to lead the party in the 2020 election.
Monti Moreno who ran for US Senate in 1996 and 2014 was first to announce his challenge to the current chair. On his Facebook Page Moreno said, “I do not want a repeat in 2020 and if you do the same thing with the same people I believe we will have the same result.”
Rick Aguilar who is a prominent Hispanic leader and the founder of the state’s Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is supporting Monti Moreno.
On March 7th a prominent Duluth conservative activist Becky Hall also announced that she will seek to become the next chair. Hall is known for raising money for conservative candidates and organizing tea party meetings in the 8th Congressional District.
Former Republican Lt. Governor Candidate Donna Bergstrom is supporting Hall in her bid to replace Jennifer Carnahan.
Carnahan’s re-election team is confident that they will easily win another term telling Duluth News Tribune that they already have nearly 70% of delegates supporting them.
The new chair will be elected at the Republican Party of Minnesota State Central Convention scheduled for April 27th at the Hutchinson Event Center.
