Biden admin let college student’s alleged illegal alien killer into country, DHS says

DHS said Jose Medina-Medina was caught by U.S. Border Patrol on May 9, 2023, and released under the Biden administration, and was arrested a second time, this time for shoplifting, before being released on June 19, 2023.

(Daily Caller News Foundation) — The illegal immigrant who killed Sheridan Gorman was released into the country by the Biden administration after being arrested by U.S. Border Patrol.

Gorman, an 18-year-old student at Loyola University, was allegedly shot and killed by Jose Medina-Medina late Thursday night near the campus. Medina-Medina, a Venezuelan illegal immigrant, approached Gorman’s group “while wearing a mask” and gunned down the student as she attempted to flee, according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

DHS stated in a Sunday press release that Medina-Medina was caught by U.S. Border Patrol on May 9, 2023, and released under the Biden administration, and was arrested a second time, this time for shoplifting, before being released on June 19, 2023. The agency referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to its press release when reached for comment.

Acting Assistant Secretary of DHS Lauren Bis said the Biden administration’s border policies “failed” Gorman.

“Sheridan Gorman had her whole life ahead of her before this cold-blooded killer decided to end her life,” Bis said in a statement. “She was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who RELEASED this illegal alien TWICE before he went on to commit this heinous murder.”

DHS also announced on Sunday that ICE lodged an arrest detainer asking Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and fellow “sanctuary politicians” not to release Medina-Medina.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving the senseless murder of Sheridan Gorman,” a spokesperson for Gov. Pritzker’s office told the DCNF in a statement. “Violent crime has no place in our streets, and we expect the alleged perpetrator to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The Trump Administration needs to stop politicizing heinous tragedies and instead focus on real solutions, like reinstating federal funds to prevent violence that support our public safety efforts.”
