An Alexandria, Minn., man with a blood alcohol concentration of .49 threatened to kill his entire family on Christmas Day, court documents state.
According to a criminal complaint, Devin Brett Brundell, 27, was arrested on Dec. 25, 2024, after a call was made by his brother, Nicholas.
Dispatch could hear Devin screaming about having a gun in the background of the initial 911 call. The complaint says that officers spoke with Nicholas outside the home. “He said that during the evening, Defendant had become upset after a phone call with his girlfriend. Defendant then attacked Nicholas and wrestled him on the floor,” the complaint says.
Nicholas explained that after his brother physically attacked him, he restrained him until he calmed down. Devin “then came upstairs and began screaming that he was going to kill Nicholas and their parents,” the complaint says.
Devin was later found to have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .49, according to the complaint. He is being charged with misdemeanor domestic assault. For reference, the legal BAC limit for driving in Minnesota is .08.
Devin has been arrested before, with the most recent incident occurring in September, making the Christmas incident a violation of his one-year probation, according to court records. A felony third-degree assault charge was dismissed in the prior case and he was convicted of a gross misdemeanor for interfering with a 911 call.
The September incident also involved his family. According to a criminal complaint, Devin hit his brother with a belt and threatened his mother when she made a 911 call.
“Defendant hit the alleged victim a few times in the body before hitting him in the head with a belt. Defendant’s mother called 911, which upset him. Defendant yelled at her and swung the belt, knocking the phone out of her hand and disconnecting the call,” the complaint in that case says, noting that the victim was “bleeding from a laceration on his scalp.”
Devin was under the influence of alcohol, with a BAC of .25, according to court records.
He was also convicted of driving under the influence in 2022.
