US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized $480,000 in counterfeit tablets traveling through International Falls Port, Minnesota.
The tablet shipment had originated in China and was on its way to Ohio when CBP officers selected the rail container carrying it for examination. The officers discovered 1,152 tablets and then seized the shipment.
“CBP is focused on identifying and intercepting counterfeit merchandise and products. The enforcement of trade laws at U.S. ports of entry remains a high priority for us,” said Anthony Jackson, International Falls Port Director. “Counterfeiting also harms consumers because manufacturers of forged products have little motivation to use safe, high-quality materials in their products.”
The CBP agents worked with their electronics import Specialists and trademark owners to ensure that the shipment was counterfeit. But did not say what kind they were in their release.
Since the beginning of 2020, CBP officers have captured 12 shipments in Minnesota’s International Falls port alone, with the manufacturer’s suggested retail price adding up to $4.8 million if the products were authentic.
