Hacktivist group Anonymous calling for national day of rage.
Minneapolis is one of 37 cities listed as part of a “Day of Rage” called for by the hacktivist group Anonymous. You can view the complete list here. The group also produced a graphic video detailing their reason for getting involved.
According the post, the Minneapolis’ “Day of Rage” is scheduled to start Friday, July 15 at 6:00 pm at the Minneapolis Urban League, 2100 Plymouth Avenue North in Minneapolis, which is the same address United States Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN) uses for his office in Minneapolis.
The threat was posted to a site called Pastebin, a site created to help programmers share lines of code. The message at the end of post reads:
WE ARE AGAINST ALL FORMS OF POLICE BRUTALITY.
WE ARE READY TO TAKE A STAND.
ALL LIVES WONT MATTER UNTIL BLACK LIVES MATTER TOO.
WE ARE ANONYMOUS.
The 37 cities where the protests are scheduled include Phoenix, Tucson, Little Rock, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Denver, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Chicago, Des Moines, New Orleans, Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Carson City, New York City, Newark, Durham, Columbus (Ohio), Cleveland, Portland (Oregon), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Memphis, Austin, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Milwaukee.
The transcript from the video includes a direct threat to the police departments of St. Anthony and Baton Rouge:
“We are calling on a collective day of rage. A day of action centered around civil disobedience and the right to protest.
To police departments across the United States. We are not your enemy. However, it is in your hands if you want us to stay that way or not. We will not be silenced and we will not be intimidated.
To the St. Anthony and the Baton Rouge Police Departments, we’ve already launched attacks on your virtual infrastructure. We are prepared to release every single piece of evidence that will expose your corruption and blatant disregard for human life.
Once again we are calling upon the citizens of the United States, in conjunction with the Black Lives Matter movement as well as other civil rights activists, to participate in a day of action against the injustices of corrupt officers. On Friday, July 15th, we will all flood the streets at strategic locations in order to maximize our voice. The locations and times will be located in the description below. Tell your family, tell your friends. We will change the world together. Our freedom depends on it.
We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not Forgive.
We do not Forget.
On July 15th, expect us all.”
The website Snopes.com is claiming that the reports for tomorrow’s Day of Rage is “identical to a false rumor circulated in 2014”.
The “Day of Rage” protests are supposed to take place just two days after President Obama met with Black Lives Matter activists at the White House, according to CNN News.
