Tom Weiler, left, and Mark Blaxill are running for Congress in Minnesota's Third District.

Two Republican candidates for Congress in Minnesota’s Third Congressional District will partake in a debate Monday, April 11 at 7 p.m.

Tom Weiler and Mark Blaxill are seeking the GOP’s endorsement to challenge Rep. Dean Phillips, a Democrat who was first elected in 2018.

The debate, hosted by the Third Congressional District Republican Party, will be broadcast live by Alpha News.

Weiler, a graduate of Notre Dame and Harvard, is a nuclear-trained submarine officer who spent 20 years in the Navy. He was forced into retirement after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

Blaxill, a graduate of Princeton and Harvard, most recently served as the treasurer of the Minnesota Republican Party. He worked at the Boston Consulting Group for 25 years and then founded two start-ups. He has also spent 20 years doing autism awareness work.

Phillips was easily reelected in 2020 by a more than 10-point margin over Republican Kendall Qualls. Qualls, however, outperformed former President Donald Trump in the district by five points.

Republican Adam Schwarze was originally scheduled to participate in the debate but can no longer attend.
