An extremist, pro-amnesty liberal is trying to hoodwink voters in Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District.
Ex-Obama administration official Dan Feehan, the Democrats’ nominee for congress, shies away from waving the “resistance” banner as vigorously as some of his fellow Democrats in solid blue Minnesota, but he’s anything but a moderate. Any serious examination of his record will show that Feehan marches along with his party’s toxic liberal wing.
In national politics, the most prominent Minnesota Democrat is, of course, Minneapolis congressman and Democratic National Committee Deputy Chair Keith Ellison.
Today, Ellison is one of the most liberal Democrats in Washington, D.C., but under the pen names “Keith E. Hakim” and “Keith X Ellison,” he spent much of the 1980s and 90s as an enthusiastic supporter of the Nation of Islam, a group whose core teachings state that white people are “grafted devils” created by a mad scientist and that “wicked Jews” control the Federal Reserve. Ellison wrote articles calling for white Americans to pay reparations for slavery and for America to be split up to create an independent black country.
Here in Southern Minnesota, we might expect a self-proclaimed moderate Democrat, who is asking for our votes, to disavow Ellison.
But no — Feehan has stood by Ellison, who is running for Minnesota attorney general at the top of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor ticket, even as avowedly liberal groups like the National Organization for Women have asked him to drop out over allegations that he violently attacked his former girlfriend.
Feehan stands behind other liberal overreaches, too. After Senator Amy Klobuchar subjected now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh to some of the most vicious and unfair treatment he endured from any Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Feehan posed smiling with her, calling her a “stabilizing force for our country.”
On major policy issues, Feehan promises to keep up the same blind party loyalty. He has endorsed both amnesty and citizenship for millions of illegal aliens, and supports doubling down on the failed government-run healthcare scheme that’s already led to much higher insurance premiums for millions of Americans.
Such radical views may seem odd for a Democrat running in a district that Donald Trump won comfortably in 2016, but they’re perfectly normal for a far-left ideologue. You see, Ellison and Klobuchar are just the start of the liberal company Feehan keeps.
In addition to racking up the endorsement of extreme liberal interest groups like Planned Parenthood and public-sector unions, Feehan went out of his way to endorse Colin Kaepernick’s shameful kneeling during the singing of the national anthem. According to Feehan, Kaepernick’s Black Lives Matter activism “matches the patriotism of our military.”
Now that he’s come back to Southern Minnesota to seek elected office, though, Feehan represents himself as a very different kind of Democrat, emphasizing his small-town upbringing and honorable service in the U.S. Army in hopes that voters will view him as a moderate. But none of that messaging can change the fact that he comes from the same mold as the most extreme liberal politicians in the country.
Dan Feehan is a product of both Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government — two cradles of liberal public policy. He was a senior official in Barack Obama’s Department of Defense while the disastrous Iran nuclear deal was being drafted. He supports the full-spectrum of radical policies espoused by the other DFL politicians our state’s solid-blue districts have sent to Washington.
Feehan will keep trying to disguise his extremism, but the truth is apparent from the company he keeps. He’s an extreme liberal dressed in moderate Democrat clothing, but don’t be fooled by the disguise.
