(Daily Caller News Foundation) — Second gentleman Doug Emhoff said during a Friday interview that the allegations about him mistreating women are “all a distraction” by his wife’s political opponents.

Emhoff admitted to having an affair with his former nanny while married to his ex-wife, while three unidentified sources told the Daily Mail in early October that the second gentleman slapped his ex-girlfriend during an alcohol-fueled fight as they allegedly fought over whether she flirted with another man. MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough, who was interviewing Emhoff, stated that Republican nominee Donald Trump is spreading “tabloid stories” about the second gentleman and Vice President Kamala Harris’ personal life.

“[Trump’s] spreading it about you, saying that tabloid stories about your personal life. He’s saying it should be front and center, he’s saying it about your wife and making incredibly crude and lewd suggestions about her past life. I’m just curious, I know I seem like a very zen, mindful person, but I think I’d be pissed off, and I’m just wondering, how do you all stay centered, how do you stay disciplined and not really go off and not really push back hard at these things?” Scarborough asked Emhoff.

“We don’t have time to be pissed off,” Emhoff replied. “We don’t have time to focus on it. It’s all a distraction. It’s designed to try and get us off our game … All we are doing, all we talk about is this election. We understand the stakes, we understand the responsibility.”

Emhoff further said this upcoming election is “the most important” of the nation’s lifetime, stating Harris needs to pick the next Supreme Court justices to protect freedoms.

The second gentleman has also been accused by his former colleagues of being “inappropriate” and “misogynistic,” where he was allegedly known for being flirty and shouting expletives at his staff while he worked at the law firm Venable in its Los Angeles office.

Emhoff also allegedly had an extramarital affair with his own family’s nanny, whom he then reportedly impregnated, according to the Daily Mail. His then-wife, Kirsten Emhoff, allegedly discovered the affair in 2009 and ended their 16-year marriage.

Harris has also come under criticism by her political opponents over her previous relationship with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, who was still married when they began seeing each other. The vice president began dating the then-60-year-old Brown in 1994 when she was 29 years old.
