The family of Sophia Forchas says the young girl is making what they call a “miraculous” recovery after surviving the shooting at Annunciation Catholic school last month.

In a statement released Sept. 22 through Hennepin Healthcare, the family said Sophia is “winning” and credited her progress to the power of prayer.

“Your prayers are working,” the statement said. “Sophia surviving this horrific attack is a miracle. Her healing progress is nothing short of miraculous; an undeniable testament to the mercy and intervention of our Lord Jesus Christ. Each day we uncover new revelations of moments and circumstances that kept her alive and made her recovery possible. There are simply too many to be dismissed as coincidence. God has heard our prayers and wrapped Sophia in His healing embrace.”

The family said that Sophia is making steady progress and showspromising signs of neurological recovery.”

The family also expressed gratitude to those across the globe who have prayed for Sophia, including Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew and Pope Leo XIV, and praised Hennepin Healthcare staff for their “tireless dedication and world-class care.”

Doctors at Hennepin County Medical Center remain cautiously optimistic about Sophia’s recovery, according to the family, and are preparing for her transition from acute care to an inpatient rehabilitation program this week.

“Though she still has a long journey ahead, filled with extensive therapy, her resilience continues to inspire hope at every step,” the statement said.

The Forchas family asked for continued prayers, urging people to “pray for peace and when you pray, move your feet. Let us worship God together and walk forward in Faith, Hope, and Love.”

A GoFundMe page for Sophia has surpassed $1 million.
