MINNEAPOLIS- Reportedly, the FBI opened up an investigation into Monterrey Security, the company responsible for security at U.S. Bank Stadium.
According to KSTP, the investigation of Monterrey Security entails looking into the falsification of government documents, failure to conduct adequate background checks and hiring people with felony convictions without getting proper clearance. There are indications that the fraud may link to hundreds of employees of Monterrey. Originally, it was reported that the Minnesota Private Detective and Protective Agent Services Board were handling the investigation. However, now that is has been determined that this type of fraud was carried out across state lines (Monterrey Security headquarters is in Chicago), the FBI has become involved.
However, Monterrey Security seems to be only aware that the company is being investigated by the Minnesota Private Detective and Protective Agent Services Board. The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) has a three year contract with Monterrey Security. Monterrey has been known for working for the NFL’s Chicago Bears and the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, as well as concert security for the Grateful Dead and Kenny Chesney.
Currently, the MSFA has not planned to take any action against Monterrey Security during their June 22 meeting. In an interview with the Star Tribune, Chairwoman of the MFSA, Kathleen Blatz, stated about the allegations against Monterrey, “I don’t know what they’ve got to back it up…I would assume they know what they’re doing; I can’t believe it’s just wholesale neglect of the rules.”
MSFA and Monterrey have both experienced some significant issues since the opening of U.S. Bank stadium. Members of MFSA has been accused in the past of giving out commissioned seats inappropriately to friends and family members. Last year, Monterrey failed to stop protesters from unfurling a flag, reading “Divest” from the rafters of the stadium, protesting the Dakota Access pipeline.
