Jefferson Fietek, a former teacher in Anoka County, and DFL candidate for MN House has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse of minors.
Fietek was recently arrested in Massachusetts where he is being held for 7 counts of criminal sexual conduct, all with victims under the age of 18. The incidents occurred in years ranging from 2009-2019, many of which occurred in the Anoka County Middle School for arts, where Fietek was been a teacher. Fietek later went on to become an assistant professor at Emmerson College but was declared “no longer an active faculty” as of June 26.
“We take these allegations very seriously, including by referring the matter to external legal authorities. The employee is no longer an active faculty member at Emerson College, and our administration has taken additional steps to preserve the safety of our community,” says a statement from Emerson College.
Fietek was the DFL nominee for house district 36A in 2014, but lost 5,000 to 8,000 against Republican candidate Mark Uglem.
Fietek was an openly gay advisor for the Anoka Middle School’s gay-straight alliance, and for his efforts received an Allan Spear award from Stonewall DFL in 2011. On June 26th, the organization announced it was revoking the award and apologized for giving Fietek a platform to speak.
