Georgia Senate candidate Rev. Raphael Warnock’s wife told a police officer that her husband is “a great actor” who puts on a “really good show” after Warnock denied her allegations that he deliberately ran over her foot during a domestic dispute at their house in Atlanta, last March.
Both Warnock and his now ex-wife Ouleye Ndoye are heard talking about the incident in police body camera footage obtained by Fox News’ Tucker Carlson.
Warnock, who is facing GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler in a high stakes runoff election on Jan. 5, told the police that he didn’t believe he ran over his wife’s foot.
In the footage, a police officer can be seen pulling up to Warnock’s house in Atlanta. Warnock tells the officer his wife called the police on him, alleging that he had run over her foot.
“Did you run over her foot?” the officer asked.
“I don’t think so,” Warnock replied. “I do not think so.”
Warnock, the radical, left-wing pastor of Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, explained that he and Ndoye were in the process of getting a divorce, and disputes between them had been escalating.
Warnock told the officer that his wife had preventing him from leaving with their young children in the back seat of the car. He said that she refused to move out of the way and kept the passenger side door of the car open.
“I don’t want to get into a shoving match with her. So I go back around, get back in the car, and I slowly start to move, like I’m gonna move forward. Then she claims I ran over her foot,” Warnock said. “I don’t believe it.” He told the officer that he thought she was clear when he started moving the car.
“I barely moved and all of a sudden she’s screaming,” Warnock said.
The officer then went to Ndoye to hear her side of the story. She told the officer that she had been trying to get Warnock’s signature for a passport so she could take the kids to see her family in West Africa after the death of her grandfather. She said that Warnock refused to talk to her and got into the car.
“He’s like, ‘Ouleye, close the door. I’m leaving,’” she said between sobs. “And I was like, ‘just hear me out. If your mom died, and I had the kids. Wouldn’t you want me to let them go with you to the funeral? And he just starts backing the car up. He wasn’t going fast, I’m not bleeding. But I just can’t believe he’d run me over.”
Medical officials at the hospital said Ndoye was able to wiggle her toes and there were no broken bones or other visible signs of injury, according to the police report.
When asked whether she thought it was intentional, she said: “Obviously. I was standing here. The door was open and I’m leaning into the car. How can you drive the car when I’m leaning into it?”
She later told the officer she wanted to file a police report.
“This man’s running for United States Senate, and all he cares about right now is his reputation,” she said. “I’ve been very quiet about the way that he is for the sake of my kids and his reputation.”
She added through tears: “I’ve tried to keep the way that he acts under wraps for a long time, and today he crossed the line. So that is what is going on here. And he’s a great actor. He is phenomenal at putting on a really good show.”
Medical officials did not find visible signs of injury on his wife’s foot and Warnock was never charged with a crime. The estranged couple finalized their divorce proceedings in May, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The race between Warnock and Republican incumbent Sen. Kelly Loeffler is one of two races in Georgia that will determine which party controls the Senate next year.
Loeffler said the police footage was “deeply troubling” in a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Warnock spokesman Michael Brewer called it was all a “desperate and shameful” attempt by Loeffler to discredit her challenger in the race.
