A Holy Week display was set up in the east hall of the Minnesota State Capitol on Wednesday as Christians across the state commemorate Jesus’ death and resurrection.
“I highly encourage you to take advantage of visiting this display and welcome you to gather around it to pray for Minnesota!” wrote Karin Miller, a local woman who helped set up the display.
Miller said that the display will be in the building until April 28. It features a homemade wooden cross that her husband and sons built, and a table with signs explaining each of the days of Holy Week. On the cross is a verse from the Gospel of John, which states: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

“This display was a collaborative effort! I want to highlight and thank all the Christian friends who helped form the inspiration for this display and who helped to create, gather, and set up the materials to make the vision for it a reality,” Miller said.
A separate Easter display on the Capitol grounds was vandalized in March. That display, which included a wooden cross and a copy of the 10 commandments, was destroyed by a vandal just a week after it was set up.
After the original Easter display was destroyed, a makeshift cross appeared in its place. The vandal, Matthew Patrick Norby from Inver Grove Heights, was cited by a state trooper. Restore Minnesota has since placed a new display on the Capitol lawn.
