Klobuchar blames violence on Trump: ‘Not safe in Donald Trump’s America’

President Donald Trump is to blame for the nation’s summer of lawlessness, Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar suggested during an interview Sunday.

Klobuchar pinned the blame on Trump less than 24 hours after a supporter of the right-wing group Patriot Prayer was shot dead in Portland, Oregon.

“This isn’t just happening in one place. It’s happening all over the country. It is happening under Donald Trump’s watch. What is going on? We have innocent people like George Floyd shot by police,” Klobuchar said during an interview on ABC’s “This Week.”

“We have what happened in Kenosha, and then we have a president that literally stands on the people’s lawn in violation of the Hatch Act, stands on the lawn with a bunch of pageantry and a bunch of fancy clothes with arias playing from the balcony and says, ‘oh, do you want to be safe?’ We are not safe in Donald Trump’s America,” added Klobuchar, who condemned the “violence” and “threats” faced by guests of the Republican National Convention as they left the White House last week.

She then claimed America has seen an “increase in hate crimes,” and crime in general, during President Trump’s time in office.

“I think Joe Biden has a very strong case to make about the changes he will make to make this country more safer,” she said. “We have not seen this with this president.”

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden also placed the blame on his opponent in a statement released on Twitter Sunday.

“We must not become a country at war with ourselves. A country that accepts the killing of fellow Americans who do not agree with you. A country that vows vengeance toward one another,” said Biden. “But that is the America that President Trump wants us to be, the America he believes we are.”
