Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar voted in favor of a judicial nominee who recommended that a transgender convicted sex offender be transferred to a women’s prison.

Last month, Alpha News reported that the U.S. Judiciary Committee would soon vote on elevating Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn to a full judgeship on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Nominated by President Joe Biden in April of this year, Netburn’s nomination has attracted national outrage.

During Netburn’s time as a magistrate judge, she authored a report which recommended that William McClain, a man who identifies as a woman, be transferred to a women’s prison. McClain had previously been convicted for molesting a 9-year-old boy, raping a 17-year-old girl, and distributing child pornography.

The Washington Free Beacon recently reported that sources with secondhand knowledge of McClain’s activities in the women’s prison say that he has exposed himself to the female inmates.

The Judiciary Committee in the U.S. Senate is comprised of 11 Democrats and 10 Republicans. Every Republican voted against Netburn; Democrat Jon Ossoff of Georgia joined the GOP in opposing Netburn. Meanwhile, the remaining 10 Democrats, including Sen. Klobuchar, voted in favor of Netburn’s nomination.

As a result of the 11-10 vote against the magistrate judge, Netburn’s nomination will not be reported to the full Senate.
