Thomas Fumbah Acquoi, Jr., 21, has been sentenced to 69 months in prison for his role in the armed robbery of a T-Mobile store in Columbia Heights in January.
According to the original criminal complaint, just after 8 p.m. on Jan. 3, two males robbed the T-Mobile store on the 4400 block of Central Avenue Northeast in Columbia Heights, MN. They zip-tied multiple customers and employees in the back room of the business and proceeded to pistol-whip one employee when he didn’t move fast enough when ordered to open the safe. The pair absconded with cash and cell phones.
One of the stolen phones was a display model equipped with GPS. Law enforcement tracked the signal to a parking lot in Eagan where Acquoi and Edward Uriah Roberts, Jr., were found inside a vehicle.
In a subsequent statement to law enforcement, Roberts said they had picked up another male he identified as “DJ” prior to the robbery and that Acquoi and DJ committed the robbery while Roberts waited in the vehicle. Roberts said they dropped off DJ after the robbery and continued to Eagan where they were arrested.

Following their arrests, Acquoi and Roberts were each charged with one felony count of first-degree aggravated robbery. Roberts, 20, pleaded guilty to the charge in April and was sentenced in October when he received a stay-of-imposition (felony sentence not imposed) by Judge Dyanna L. Street. Roberts was alternatively credited with 146 days already served in jail and placed on probation for a term of 10 years. Roberts was also ordered to pay a $300 fine and given the option to perform community service work in lieu of payment.
Acquoi pleaded guilty to the charge in May and was sentenced on Friday to 69 months in prison, also by Judge Street. Under Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines, offenders are only required to serve two-thirds of their sentence incarcerated with the remainder served on supervised release. With credit for 192 days already served in jail, Acquoi is expected to serve about 46 months incarcerated and is scheduled for release in April 2023. Acquoi also has another pending felony narcotics case in Washington County and is scheduled for a jury trial in March on that case.
