MINNESOTA – Stewart Mills, the Republican candidate for congress in CD8 has decided to not ask for a recount of votes.  Mills lost to Democratic Congressman Rick Nolan by only 2,009 votes among the nearly 357,000 votes cast in the congressional district.

Mills said in a press release, “After much consideration, thought, and prayer along with consulting with my family and supporters I’ve decided not to ask for a recount.  I would like to commend the County Clerks and Secretary of State for an exemplary job in conducting an election that in the end came down to 0.56%.”

Mills also thanked and congratulated Congressman Nolan.  He said in his statement, “We did not always agree on everything, but I respect the Congressman, and wish him the best as he moves forward representing the 8th Congressional district.”

Mills called the estimated $102,000 cost of the recount “excessive.”  He said that instead of spending financial resources to recount votes, he would donate a portion of that money to the Salvation Army.  He also stated that any donations made to his campaign for a recount would be refunded in full, or if the donors choose, their donations will be added to Mills’ donation to the Salvation Army.
