According to the criminal complaint, Abdikadir Ayanle Ali removed security straps from thousands of dollars of merchandise at multiple St. Paul Target stores using a machete since Nov. 10, 2018.

On Dec. 23, 2018, Ali brought a knife into and robbed the Target Express on Ford Parkway, stealing $415 in merchandise. This came after his Nov 10, 2018 robbery followed by two more at the same location, stealing $3,550 in merchandise while using a machete.

Surveillance footage from the Target stores is what helped authorities track down Ali. Ali ultimately confessed that he “hit” the Midway Target at least 10 times, along with the target in Highland, the Midway Walmart and TJ Maxx.

Ali also told police that he used the machete to “intimidate” anyone who confronted him. He also confessed to committing the robberies to support his methamphetamine addiction.
