Four murders in a week in Minneapolis have homicides in the city outpacing last year during the same period. Additionally, two deaths attributed to an arson fire in downtown Minneapolis in August were classified as homicides this week.
With less than a month to go to the end of the year, the City of Minneapolis has tallied at least 72 non-negligent homicides so far this year, according to the city’s crime dashboard. A homicide map maintained by Crime Watch Minneapolis offers corresponding details for most of the city’s murders. Minneapolis ended 2023 with 72 homicides, the crime dashboard states.
Four fatal shootings in the week leading up to and through Thanksgiving contributed to a violent week in the city, with two of the murders on the south side and two on the north side, including one on Thanksgiving Day.
Minneapolis had 63 homicides through the same period last year, indicating an increase in homicides of 14% so far this year.
St. Paul stands at a total of 31 homicides through last Friday, nearly on track with last year’s total, which ended the year at 32 homicides.
