In the span of about an hour on Friday night there were several reports of BB-gun related incidents in Minneapolis, and one of them left a local business owner shot in the face and needing surgery.

At least three reports were logged on Minneapolis police scanner incident pages on social media starting just after 8:30 p.m. Friday. The first was reported in Northeast Minneapolis near 22nd Avenue Northeast and 5th Street Northeast when police were dispatched to a report of an occupied vehicle window being shot out. The suspect vehicle in that incident was described as a gray sedan with a spoiler. No one was reported to be injured in that incident.

About 15 minutes later, Minneapolis Scanner posted a report of a bus stop being shot at near Plymouth and Emerson Avenues North, indicating shots fired possibly from a BB gun. Again, no injuries were reported in that incident.

Twenty minutes later, about 9:10 p.m., Minneapolis Crime Watch posted that police were dispatched to the 1000 block of West Broadway Avenue on a report of a possible shooting. The post was updated to say that responders reported that the weapon used was possibly a BB gun, not a firearm.

Recorded police dispatch audio captured from that incident indicated that a person reported being shot and that they were bleeding from the face. A responding officer aired that the injury was possibly from a BB gun. The dispatcher also indicated that a bus stop had previously been shot at and that Metro Transit had reported that “multiple buses had been shot at” with a BB gun in the area that evening.

Saturday morning, a Facebook post from Wendy’s House of Soul restaurant identified the owner of the business, Wendy Puckett, as the person who had been shot in the face on Friday evening while leaving work. The post said that she was expected to be OK, but that she was going to require surgery. Wendy’s House of Soul is located at 1021 West Broadway Avenue, the location of the reported shooting.

It’s unknown at this time whether all of the reported incidents are related. As of Saturday evening, it was reported that the Minneapolis Police Department and Metro Transit police were reviewing surveillance video to possibly identify suspect, but no one had been arrested as of that time.
