A Minneapolis repeat offender with nearly four dozen prior convictions has been charged in an Albertville, Minn., business theft for allegedly stealing over $2,300 in perfume products last month.
Shawn Lavelle Washington, Jr., 32, has been charged in Wright County District Court with one count of felony theft, and is currently wanted on a warrant in the case.
Charges say Washington and an accomplice entered the Ulta Beauty store in the Outlets at Albertville mall just before 5 p.m. on Sept. 11 and grabbed display bottles of perfume, stuffed them in their pockets and fled the store in a red Jeep Cherokee in about three minutes.
The heist was captured on video and showed one suspect in a medical mask, later identified as Washington, whom the store manager recognized from a theft at their affiliate store in Plymouth, Minn. The store manager also suspected that the accomplice may be Washington’s younger brother, who was not named in the complaint.
Washington has an extensive criminal history, including numerous thefts and several felonies. Washington was just convicted in June in Hennepin County on a charge of felony theft involving the Plymouth Ulta store, from which he stole over $1,300 in merchandise in April. Despite Washington’s extensive criminal history, his 19-month felony sentence was stayed by Judge Marta Chou, and he was instead sentenced to 63 days of time already served in jail and was placed on probation and was ordered to stay away from all Ulta Beauty stores.
Washington is also wanted on a probation violation in the Plymouth case.
