Minnesota Democrat touts DSA endorsements as leaders call for abolishing presidency, Senate, Supreme Court

At least five Democratic state legislators are endorsed by the DSA, which also wants to abolish prisons and national borders.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is no longer operating on the political fringe

More than 35 Democratic candidates endorsed by the DSA have already won their primaries heading into the November midterms, according to NewsNation.

State Sen. Omar Fateh, DFL-Minneapolis, who is seeking reelection, said he is one of five Democratic legislators endorsed by the DSA.

“I’m proud to be one of five(!) DSA endorsed Minnesota State Legislators, alongside my comrades Jen McEwen, Liish Kozlowski, Athena Hollins, & Sam Sencer-Mura,” Fateh wrote on social media Wednesday.

National platform calls for sweeping changes

The endorsements come as the DSA, which says it has more than 100,000 members nationwide, is promoting a new platform that would dismantle major pillars of the federal government and fundamentally reshape how the United States is governed.

The “Workers Deserve More” program calls for replacing the president and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary “chosen by and subordinate to Congress.”

It also calls for abolishing the U.S. Senate, eliminating Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the eventual abolishment of the prison system, granting amnesty to all illegal immigrants, and placing the nation’s largest corporations and essential industries under public ownership.

DSA co-chair Megan Romer defended those proposals during an interview on Fox News.

When asked whether the organization wants to replace the presidency and Supreme Court “as we know them,” Romer responded, “Yep.”

Romer also reiterated the organization’s support for abolishing ICE, defunding the Department of War, and eliminating national borders while granting amnesty to illegal immigrants.

“We run under the Democratic ballot where it makes sense,” she said, describing the group’s electoral strategy.

In addition to the state legislators, the DSA has also backed at least four sittings members of the Minneapolis City Council. Alpha News spoke with a lifelong Minnesota Democrat earlier this year who said the growing influence of the DSA has “ruined” the Democratic Party.
