Minnesota Dems ‘could not be more excited’ by selection of Harris as Biden’s running mate

After months of speculation, Joe Biden announced Tuesday that he has selected Sen. Kamala Harris to be his running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket.

Biden called Harris a “fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants” when announcing the news on Twitter.

“Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign,” said Biden.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who withdrew herself from consideration for the vice presidency because of her race, said she was “filled with joy” by the announcement.

“This is a historic moment, and I know that her leadership, experience, and character will help move our country forward when she and Joe Biden take back the White House,” Klobuchar wrote on Twitter.

Although campaigns “can tear friendships apart,” Klobuchar said she and Harris “grew closer” on the campaign trail earlier this year.

“Kamala is a good friend and incredibly strong public servant,” she added.

Sen. Tina Smith noted that Harris would be the first female vice president if elected.

“She’s been a fighter for the people, and I’m confident she’ll be a champion for all Americans as our next vice president,” Smith said.

Rep. Dean Phillips said he hopes the country will “be so fortunate to be led with such empathy, experience, and ethics.”

“Kamala Harris will be a tremendous running mate and an even better vice president. We have 84 days to make it happen,” commented Rep. Angie Craig.

Minnesota DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin said he “could not be more excited” to vote for Harris and Biden.

“As the daughter of immigrants and the first Black woman to serve California as Attorney General and in the United States Senate, I know that Kamala Harris can help heal the divisions across our nation that Donald Trump has spent his life exacerbating,” said Martin.

President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign already has a new nickname for Biden’s running mate: “Phony Kamala.”

“Not long ago, Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist and asked for an apology she never received,” Katrina Pierson, a senior advisor to the Trump campaign, said in a statement.

“Clearly, Phony Kamala will abandon her own morals, as well as try to bury her record as a prosecutor, in order to appease the anti-police extremists controlling the Democrat Party,” she added. “In her failed attempt at running for president, Kamala Harris gleefully embraced the left’s radical manifesto, calling for trillions of dollars in new taxes and backing Bernie Sanders’ government takeover of health care. She is proof that Joe Biden is an empty shell being filled with the extreme agenda of the radicals on the left.”

Preya Samsundar, a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee, said Harris has “solidified Joe Biden’s campaign as the most radical ticket in history.”

“A hiding, diminished, and incoherent Joe Biden didn’t just select a vice-presidential candidate, he chose the person who would actually be in charge the next four years if he is somehow able to win,” added RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

“Kamala Harris’ extreme positions, from raising taxes to abolishing private health insurance to comparing law enforcement officials to the KKK, show that the left-wing mob is controlling Biden’s candidacy, just like they would control him as president. These radical policies might be popular among liberals, but they are well outside the mainstream for most Americans.”
