Minnesota Twins to host Faith Day game

The Minnesota Twins will be hosting a Faith Day on July 8 when the Twins play the Baltimore Orioles.

Ticket purchases through a special link will support Cornerstone Options for Women, a women’s clinic offering free pregnancy tests, STD testing, and ultrasounds.

According to the Twins’ website, a post-game program will feature live worship by the band Sanctus Real. They will also feature player testimonies.

The event is put on in collaboration with PraiseLive, a Christian radio station. This is not the first year this event has taken place. Faith Day began in 2015. In years prior, partnerships have been with the local Grace Church in Eden Prairie and PraiseFM, another radio station.

Many local churches are bringing groups to this year’s game and the post-game worship.

Back when Faith Day began, criticism arose from some who believed it to be discriminatory against other faiths.

Other theme nights for the Minnesota Twins this year include Pride Night, Harry Potter Night, and a Star Wars Night.

The 2023 Pride Night game was June 16, and tickets included a special Pride pronouns jersey. A portion of ticket sales went to support Twin Cities Pride. Major League Baseball recently advised teams to not have players wear Pride uniforms, according to the New York Post.

“We have told teams, in terms of actual uniforms, hats, bases that we don’t think putting logos on them is a good idea just because of the desire to protect players,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred reportedly said. “Not putting them in a position of doing something that may make them uncomfortable because of their personal views.”

The league faced significant backlash after the Los Angeles Dodgers moved forward with their plans to honor the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an anti-Catholic hate group.
