A new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll says the economy and immigration are the two most important issues to likely Minnesota voters this year.

According to the poll, which was conducted at the end of September and surveyed 646 likely voters, 34% of respondents said the economy was the most important issue to them in the 2024 elections. Meanwhile, 17% of poll respondents said that immigration was the most important issue to them. As such, over half of all those surveyed said either the economy or immigration was the most important issue to them.

Following those two issues, abortion was selected by 12% of poll respondents as the most important issue.

Other poll respondents said healthcare, education, crime, taxes, government spending, policing, and gun control were their most important issues this election. However, none of those issues registered more than 8% in the poll.

The economy and immigration being the two most important issues to likely Minnesota voters is undoubtedly good news for former president Donald Trump’s campaign and Republicans throughout the state.

Last week, a nationwide poll commissioned by the New York Post found that a majority of voters believe Trump will do a better job dealing with the economy and illegal immigration than his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. Additionally, that New York Post poll found voters also trust Trump more to handle issues such as national security, taxes, government spending, crime, and inflation.

Meanwhile, the same poll found Harris was more trusted amongst voters on the topics of abortion, climate change, healthcare, guns, education, civil liberties, poverty, and democracy.

As such, the issues Minnesota voters care about most appear to favor Trump more than Harris. However, recent polling indicates that Harris maintains an advantage in Minnesota.

According to a polling average from RealClearPolling, Harris has a 4.7 point lead over Trump in Minnesota. The most recent poll conducted in that average of polls was a Rasmussen Reports survey which shows Harris up by 3 points. Similarly, the polling average from 538 indicates that Harris has a 5.7 point lead over Trump in Minnesota.
