After Governor Walz proposed a gas tax increase that will cost an average family about $300 more a year, the New House Republican Caucus is preseting it’s own budget that reduces the cost of owning a car in Minnesota.
The proposal would allow all Minnesotans to receive free vehicle tabs for a whole year. The proposal would save Minnesota drivers $1 billion dollars. Democrats quickly criticized the proposal for removing revenue from the state but Rep. Jeremy Munson told the Pioneer Press “License tab fees are a big pain for people,”
Pioneer Press also points out that license tabs have been a big source of headaches for Minnesota drivers. Over 200,000 titles were backlogged and nearly $100 million dollars were spent trying to fix it.
Republican-controlled Minnesota Senate is also expected to introduce a budget that will have to be negotiated with Democrat lead Minnesota house before being sent to Governor Tim Walz
