New Senate ads attack Tina Smith for undermining law enforcement

"I say there is something dangerously wrong with a United States Senator who blatantly undermines law enforcement and jeopardizes public safety."

U.S. Senate candidate Jason Lewis, who’s running against Democratic Sen. Tina Smith, has launched an ad attacking her for siding with the “defund the police” movement.

The 30-second ad, called “Dangerously Wrong,” shows fiery riots and chaotic looting, citing it as the work of “defund the police” movement members.

“There is something dangerously wrong about the role that police play in our society,” Smith states in the ad.

Lewis’ ad also points out Smith’s endorsement of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has called for  dismantling the Minneapolis Police Department.

“They burned the police station, looted, rioted. Minneapolis was on fire, yet Tina Smith supports the radical ‘defund the police’ movement and blames police,” says the ad.

Lewis said “there is something dangerously wrong with a United States senator who blatantly undermines law enforcement and jeopardizes public safety.”

“From calling for more ‘righteous protests’ after days of looting and arson to enthusiastically endorsing Ilhan Omar, Sen. Tina Smith is putting her radical policy goals above the safety of our communities,” Lewis said in a statement.

“If Democrats win this November, the violent mob will control our streets, emboldened by inflammatory, anti-law enforcement politicians like Sen. Tina Smith. Across the country we are seeing a wave of crime spikes, early retirements, and resignations because the support network for law enforcement is being dismantled. The first duty of government is to protect life, liberty, and property, yet the Democrats refuse to do it. As the husband of a police officer, I will always back the blue and will help restore public order to this nation,” he continued.

“Gone,” an ad recently released by the Citizens United Political Victory fund, also cites the riots and anti-police rhetoric of the left to garner support for Lewis.

“Chaos in the streets, fire in the sky, violence at our doorstep. Our police stand between us and the mob, and they want police gone. We need a defender in the Senate – Jason Lewis. Lewis stands for law and order, and will ensure our police have the resources they need to keep the peace and keep us safe,” states the ad.

Reports say that the Citizens United Political Victory Fund spent $435,500 on advertisements in support of Lewis, the largest independent expenditure for the Minnesota Senate race thus far.
