AVON, Minn. – Avon police officer Jason Falconer was honored Monday evening for the actions he took during a terror attack in St. Cloud, receiving the “Officer of the Year” award, the highest honor given by the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association.
On September 17, Falconer shot and killed Dahir Adan at the Crossroads Center in St. Cloud after Adan had stabbed ten people at the mall, including a pregnant woman.
As Alpha News reported, ISIS claimed responsibility for the terror attack, calling Adan an “ISIS soldier.” Eyewitness reports state that the man asked at least one of his victims of their religion and mentioned “Allah.”
Falconer was off-duty when he sprang into action, shooting Adan while thwarting his advances. Adan tried to get back up and continue his attack three additional times before dying from his injuries.
According to Officer.com, the award is for officers who exceed expectations, put their life in danger, and demonstrate courage in an emergency.
The award comes after Falconer received the National Rifle Association’s “NRA Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” award last Wednesday.
