Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-05) said that former Vice President Joe Biden’s current presidential platform is “the most progressive platform a president has ever run on.”

A video shows Omar suggesting that Biden’s politics have been reshaped lately to make him significantly more progressive.

“We’ve now had an opportunity to move his platform to be more progressive, the most progressive platform a president has ever run on,” Omar said.

The comments were made during a Friday debate on WCCO radio between Omar and two of her Democratic challengers, Antone Melton-Meaux and John Mason. Among Republicans, Omar’s statement added to suspicions that a Biden presidency would be a “Trojan Horse” for progressives, as President Donald Trump has suggested.

“Sleepy Joe Biden is just a Trojan Horse for the Radical Left Agenda. He will do whatever they want,” the president recently wrote on Twitter.

The first-term congresswoman recently joined other prominent Muslim officials, including Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN-07), in endorsing Biden.

Omar came together with her fellow Muslims to endorse Biden in a letter organized by Emgage Action, which describes itself as “the politics home for American Muslims.”

“Joe Biden’s presence serves not only to galvanize Muslim Americans to cast their ballots, but to usher in an era of engaging with Muslim American communities under a Biden administration,” said Emgage CEO Wa’el Alzayat in an email, The Associated Press reported.

“We anticipate that a Biden administration would provide Muslim American communities platforms to speak on issues affecting us, represent us within the administration and in policymaking discourses,” he added.

Omar has not always been a fan of Biden, though. When Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was still a contender in the 2020 presidential race, Omar endorsed him warmly via a video posted to his YouTube channel and campaigned with the socialist senator on numerous occasions.

When Sanders visited Minnesota in March, for instance, Omar was invited to speak on his stage.

Omar has also acknowledged allegations of sexual assault leveled against Biden. In late May, she appeared on “Good Morning America” to say that she believes Tara Reade, per ABC. Reade says Biden forcibly penetrated her with his fingers while she worked as a staffer in his Senate office.
