ST. PAUL, Minn. – State Rep. Ilhan Omar was almost six months late in filing her economic interest disclosure, and now she wants more time to pay the late penalties.
Economic interest disclosures for public officials were due January 29. Omar submitted her form on June 20, accruing the maximum of $100 in late fees as well as $1000 in civil penalties.
Now Omar is asking the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board to approve a payment plan for the fees and penalties.
According to the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board, Omar has requested to pay her penalties in three installments that would be due over the next three months.
Omar has already paid the first installment of $500 for the month of June. If the payment plan were approved, Omar would pay $300 in July and $300 in August.
The Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board is set to discuss Omar’s request at their upcoming meeting this Wednesday.
Omar has not commented on why she missed the filing deadline for the economic interest disclosure form, nor has she addressed why she cannot pay the fees up front. Alpha News reached out to Omar’s office for comment. Omar’s office did not respond prior to publication.
