U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar issued a press release Monday calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment after his call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was leaked.
Then on Wednesday she said she was “drawing up articles of impeachment” after Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
“We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath,” she said.

The leaked phone call revealed Trump trying to push the Georgia official to reverse the presidential election outcome in the state.
In response to the leaked call, Omar tweeted that Trump’s words were “clearly an impeachable offense,” and “there is nothing under the law giving Trump immunity from criminal process and indictment for this conduct.”
Her office’s news release called Trump’s phone call a “flagrant act of sedition,” also stating his attempt to “openly overturn our election results … is a crime, plain and simple.”
Omar claimed Trump and “his collaborators” are encouraged when they are not “held accountable for their crimes.” There are no exceptions in the Constitution in regards to “the amount of time the president has left in office, or the popular support they have. And we cannot (make exceptions) either,” the press release stated.
Trump is attempting to “overthrow our democracy,” Omar declared.
U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is also on board with impeaching the president.

Two Democratic representatives have asked the FBI to begin a criminal investigation into Trump’s phone call with the Georgia official.
