The president of Education Minnesota, the state’s teachers union, said America was “built on white privilege and by racist systems” in reaction to Tuesday night’s debate.
“You’re right Joe Biden. Our country was built on white privilege and by racist systems. Trump is racist,” Education Minnesota President Denise Specht wrote on Twitter.
“Trump’s debate strategy was create chaos. Pretty much how he approaches everything,” she added.
Specht’s tweet was posted while the two presidential candidates were discussing issues of race and policing in America during Tuesday night’s first debate.
Former Vice President Joe Biden was asked if he believes there is a “separate but unequal system of justice for blacks in this country.”
“Yes, there is. There’s systemic injustice in this country — in education, in work and in law enforcement and the way in which it’s enforced,” Biden replied.
Biden later called President Donald Trump a “racist” and accused him of using dog whistles to “generate racist hatred, racist division.”
President Donald Trump, meanwhile, defended his decision to ban critical race theory from being promoted in the federal government.
“It was a radical revolution that was taking place in our military, in our schools,” said Trump. “They were teaching people to hate our country and I’m not going to do that.”
