The Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) is launching a $7 million ad campaign to support Republican attorneys general and Republican candidates for attorney general in 13 states, one of those being Minnesota.
In the race for attorney general in Minnesota, two-term incumbent Democrat Keith Ellison is facing Republican Ron Schutz. Schutz is a former JAG officer and trial attorney.
RAGA’s nationwide ads will be a combination of television and digital ads. While the group did not say how much money it is investing in Minnesota, TownHall columnist Dustin Grage reported that RAGA’s ad blitz in Minnesota would be “seven-figure[s].”
Grage also shared the first RAGA Minnesota ad which is titled “Thanks, Keith.”

That Minnesota ad attacks Ellison over fraud that has occurred in the North Star State. A voiceover in the ad says, “$9 billion stolen, the largest fraud in America, on Keith Ellison’s watch. He was supposed to stop them.”
The ad ends with a sarcastic, “Thanks, Keith.”
Ellison is considered one of the weakest DFLers running for statewide office in Minnesota this year. In 2022, Ellison won a second term as attorney general by less than 1 point. A recent poll from KSTP/SurveyUSA showed Ellison and Schutz were tied in the race.
In addition to the Minnesota race, RAGA will spend money in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Ohio, Kansas, Michigan, Nevada, New York, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Nationally, there are 30 state attorney general contests in this year’s midterm elections. In their Tuesday announcement about the $7 million ad campaign, RAGA said it plans to spend at least six-figures in each of the 13 races they have targeted.
“RAGA is going on offense now with better candidates, better messaging, and the resources to remind voters early and often that fighting fraud and all forms of crime is on the ballot this November,” RAGA executive director Adam Piper said in a press release.
Additionally, Piper noted that RAGA will spend more on political activity this year than in any other year of the organization’s 27-year existence.
