Two conservative Minnesota House Republicans are calling for ethics an investigation of House Minority Leader, Representative Kurt Daudt.
Republican House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt joined Stateside lobby group as the firm’s Director of Public Affairs in November 2019, according to the company website. Now, members of his own party are calling for an ethics investigation against him regarding this position.
“We believe that Rep. Daudt has most assuredly betrayed the public trust and has brought dishonor and disrepute upon the Minnesota House of Representatives,” Representatives Steve Drazkowski and Tim Miller said in a press release, Thursday.
“As such, we have sent a letter to the Speaker of the House requesting a full ethics investigation into Rep. Daudt’s deliberately exercised ethical conflict. An ethics investigation is a commonsense measure to ensure the integrity of our government.”
The representatives are accusing Daut of “casting votes on behalf of his influential clients,” and “trying his hardest to pump swamp water from Washington D.C. directly into Minnesota.”
They also claim that their “offices are now getting calls from lobbyists with Washington D.C. based Stateside Associates,” which never occurred prior to Daudt joining the firm.
Drazkowski and Miller have long been disappointed with Daudt’s performance. According to their press release, they originally formed the New House Republican Caucus (NHRC) in response to what they see as Daudt’s “long history of failed, dishonest, and unethical leadership.”
“The people of Minnesota deserve competent leaders,” the NHRC heads concluded. “We formed the New House Republican Caucus to reintroduce honesty and transparency into the Minnesota Legislature. All legislators, regardless of political allegiance, must be held to the high ethical standards that the public expects from its leaders.”
