A group of Republicans plan to host a “Unity Rally” Saturday in Hugo, Minnesota in response to last weekend’s Black Lives Matter protest.
The event, scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. in Lion’s Park, was organized in response to an unruly protest that took place last weekend outside the home of Bob Kroll, president of the Minneapolis police union.
State Sen. Roger Chamberlain, R-Lino Lakes, will be joined by Republican House candidates Elliott Engen and Donald Raleigh in speaking at the event.
“This weekend a group, led by an incoming Democrat state representative, terrorized a Hugo neighborhood, screamed profanities, and threatened to burn the city down. After what we all witnessed earlier this summer with riots across the Metro, we know violent crime coming to the suburbs is a real possibility,” the three said in a joint statement released earlier in the week.
They said Saturday’s rally will show “the rest of the state that the people of Hugo respect the police, love our country and welcome all views.”
“While we can all work together to support law enforcement and encourage common-sense reforms, we cannot allow this vile, reprehensible behavior to become normalized in our political discourse. Democrats across the state should denounce these actions and stand up for safety in our community,” they added. “Every minute that goes by in silence is lending support to this lawlessness.”
