Rudy Giuliani Says Mayor Frey, Other ‘Progressive Democrats’ Should Resign for Handling of Riots

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani called on Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to resign for failing to protect his citizens from a week of riots that left portions of his city in ruins.

In a Friday interview with Fox News, Giuliani said “progressive Democrats are incapable of keeping their people safe because they have criminal-friendly policies that are pathetic.”

“Watch the cities that start burning. They are all going to be run by so-called progressive, idiot Democrats who let criminals out of jail, who set bail for murderers and who encourage this kind of thing. Giving up a police precinct, the mayor should resign,” he said.

“Telling police officers to flee a precinct, he should resign and be replaced by somebody who can protect his people,” he continued, criticizing Mayor Frey’s controversial decision to give up the Minneapolis Police Department’s Third Precinct, which was heavily damaged by fire.

Giuliani also called on Gov. Tim Walz to resign, since it took him “four days to protect his people.”

“One man has died already. How many more are going to die before somebody decides to protect the people of Minnesota, Minneapolis, the people of Atlanta, the people of New York?” he said. “There is no one who feels more strongly about the killing of Mr. Floyd than I do. I think it’s outrageous what happened.”

In a Monday interview, Giuliani suggested that the former Minneapolis police officer at the center of the case, Derek Chauvin, should be charged with first-degree murder because he was warned at least five times that “he might be killing” Floyd.

Giuliani, who now serves as an attorney for President Donald Trump, has continued to criticize mayors of major cities for their response to the riots that are sweeping the nation. On Monday, he called on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to step down and asked Gov. Andrew Cuomo to remove him.

“Again today lawlessness reigned supreme. The police hardly interfered,” Giuliani said on Twitter Monday night. “All of this shows just how dangerous the progressive Democrats are as mayors and governors. Their impracticality and desire to pander makes it impossible for them to take action necessary to protect us.”

He again cited Frey’s decision to abandon the police precinct in a Monday tweet, saying it is “obvious that these mayors are incapable of protecting their citizens.”
