An elderly woman was assaulted and carjacked in Minneapolis last week and police are seeking information about the suspects.
On Tuesday, June 9, just before 6 p.m., Minneapolis police responded to a report of an elderly woman who had been assaulted and carjacked in south Minneapolis.
Recorded police dispatch audio subsequently obtained indicated that the incident was originally reported as an assault but was updated to a carjacking, according to the dispatcher. The audio also indicated that the group of suspects may have been involved in another altercation nearby shortly after the carjacking.
The following day, the woman’s daughter posted on Facebook about the assault and carjacking saying that her mother had been punched in the face and dragged from the vehicle by her hair after being approached by three teen males as she was leaving her residence. The males had approached the victim on the pretense of asking her a question.
The incident occurred outside a multi-unit senior housing complex on the 2400 block of Bloomington Avenue South.

A reporter with Alpha News has confirmed with the victim’s daughter that the vehicle has since been recovered and her mother is recovering from her injuries.
On Sunday it was reported that St. Paul police had made an arrest of a 16-year-old boy related to a string of “brazen” carjackings committed in that city, reportedly by several people working together over the last two weeks and using the same M.O. (modus operandi) as was used in the Minneapolis carjacking. It’s unknown at this time whether the arrest or the St. Paul crimes may be related to Tuesday’s carjacking in Minneapolis.
Note: Alpha News is not naming the victim or her daughter in order to protect their privacy.
Anyone with information about the suspects in the Minneapolis carjacking is asked to contact the Minneapolis Police Department at 612-673-3482 and reference case #20-156142.
