The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says it has taken 45-year-old Trevor Joseph Wunderlich into custody following an extensive manhunt Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The sheriff’s office said in a press release Monday that first responders were dispatched to a home on the 15900 block of Ingersoll Ave. N. in Hugo on a report of an unknown medical situation.

They arrived to find a 68-year-old woman with severe traumatic injuries who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

The sheriff’s office said in its Monday evening release that an active search was underway for Wunderlich in connection to the woman’s death. On Tuesday morning, police said Wunderlich had been located and taken into custody.

In a subsequent update, the sheriff’s office said dispatch could hear a woman moaning and a male voice shouting in the background on the 911 call. When police arrived at the home, they saw Wunderlich leaning over his mother, 68-year-old Charlene Wunderlich, according to the sheriff’s office. She was badly bruised and groaning in pain, police said. Deputies attempted to subdue Wunderlich with a taser, but he was able to escape from the residence.

The sheriff’s office said a citizen noticed a person in their yard Tuesday morning who matched the suspect description. Deputies immediately responded and arrested Wunderlich without incident. He remains in custody at the Washington County Jail pending formal charges.

Court records indicate Wunderlich has a long criminal history dating back to the early 2000s, including multiple convictions for assault and domestic abuse no-contact order violations.
